On the 31st of May 2023, Ultimate Health Management Services and FCT Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS) gathered captains of industry and members of the press in the FCT to witness the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Ultimate HMO and the FHIS for the provision of Universal Health Coverage for all residents of the FCT.
In attendance were Dr Ahmed Danfulani (Director of FHIS), Otunba Lekan Ewenla (MD/CEO Ultimate Health Management Services Limited), Mr Kunle Ewenla (General Manager International Operations and Business Advancement Ultimate Health), Chief Mrs Agboola (FCT Chairman National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools), Chief Ojealaro Lucky (JP) (Vice Chairman Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria), members of the press, and members of several other trade and professional unions across the FCT including the private proprietor’s private security guards, automobile retailers, traders amongst others.
In his welcome address, the Director of the FHIS – Dr Danfulani, thanked everyone for coming out to mark this auspicious occasion. He reiterated that the goal of the FCT administration is to get everyone within the FCT covered in the health insurance scheme. The FHIS is willing to collaborate with all stakeholders and drive the process to make this happen. In his keynote address, Otunba Lekan Ewenla emphasized that health security is a fundamental human right backed by labour laws that predate Nigerian Independence. The International Labor Organization (ILO) has charters that protect the rights of employees to healthcare provided by the employer. Nigeria is a member of the United Nations (the parent body of the ILO) and is a signatory to these charters. Therefore employers must provide health insurance for their employees. The signing of this memorandum of understanding between Ultimate Health HMO and FHIS would make enrollment in healthcare insurance more accessible for those in the private sector and the informal sector.
The landmark event was the toast of all the attendees. Representatives of various organizations and institutions had the opportunity to seek clarification about the operations of the FCT Health Insurance Scheme, and most of them praised the laudable initiative of Ultimate Health HMO and the FHIS.
